What do I want? What do I need?

DESIGN PRACTICE – BRIEF TWO

INDEPENDENT (LIVE) BREIF

THE CHEEKY MONKEY CAKE COMPANY, YORK.

The Brief:

Produce a logo and promotional design advertising ‘The Cheeky Monkey Cake Company’ in York. The logo will be applied to business cards, letterheads, their website and car. You must incorporate the illustrated image of a monkey in the logo, either as a feature or to work along side the company name. There are no colour or typeface limitations, you are free to experiment appropriately.

Considerations:

How will you develop your illustrations and type to communicate the business appropriately and successfully? How will you use colour and type appropriately to portray the cake business? Will the colour choice be two or more colour? Who is the audience? Potential clients, customers, buyers? Your research should consider existing companies, competitors and clients. Research should help identify these and inform your design.

Background:

The Cheeky Monkey Cake Company is a new cake making and decorating business based in York. It has no existing branding or promotional designs and requires something to promote itself. How you chose to develop the logo must relate to a cake business and make a feature of the ‘cheeky monkey.’

Mandatory Requirements:

The resolution should be resolved, contextualized and presented as a finished product. Development work should be clearly recorded and posted to a blog in the appropriate format. You must demonstrate on going planning, evaluation and analysis. Development must be included.

Deliverables:

The resolution should be presented on 1-2 A3 presentation boards and a full body of work demonstrating effective research and development of designs. All development should be presented in A3 plastic sleeves. (Maximum of 2.)
